MPG stands for Miles Per Gallon and shows how far your car can travel using one gallon of fuel.
MPG = Miles Driven ÷ Gallons Used
If you drove 300 miles and used 10 gallons of fuel:
300 ÷ 10 = 30 MPG
This means your car is achieving 30 MPG.
In the UK, fuel is usually measured in litres, so you can use this formula:
MPG = (Miles Driven × 4.546) ÷ Litres Used
(400 × 4.546) ÷ 50 = 36.4 MPG
So the vehicle is averaging approximately 36 MPG.
