    FAQs

    What is the Motability Scheme?

    Close

The Motability Scheme offers an all-inclusive package that allows anyone in receipt of either: the Higher Rate Mobility Component of Disability Living Allowance (HMRC DLA), the Enhanced Rate of the Mobility Component of Personal Independence Payment (ERMC PIP), the War Pensioners' Mobility Supplement (WPMS) or the Armed Forces Independence Payment (AFIP), to use their mobility allowance to lease a car, scooter, powered wheelchair or wheelchair accessible vehicle.

    How does it work?

    Close

Rather than collecting a PIP allowance (Personal Independence Payment) this can be exchanged to lease a vehicle from a manufacturer using the Motability Operations programme.

Am I eligible to join the Motability Scheme?

    Close

To be eligible to join the Motability Scheme, you must receive one of these disability allowances:

    • Enhanced Rate of the Mobility Component of Personal Independence Payment (PIP)
    • Higher Rate Mobility Component of the Disability Living Allowance (DLA)
    • Enhanced Rate of the Mobility Component of Adult Disability Payment (Scotland)
    • Higher Rate Mobility Component of Child Disability Payment (Scotland)
    • War Pensioners’ Mobility Supplement (WPMS)
    • Armed Forces Independence Payment (AFIP)

You will need to have at least 12 months remaining on your allowance when you apply.

How much does leasing through the Motability Scheme cost?

    Close

Depending on which vehicle you choose, you will exchange all or most of the higher rate mobility part of your weekly disability allowance for the course of your three year lease. Other parts - such as the care component - remain completely untouched and you will continue to receive them as normal.

For cars there are three pricing options to choose from. Some cost less than your weekly allowance, others cost the same as your weekly allowance, and some require an Advance Payment. Contact us for current prices. And don't forget, when you lease a car through the Scheme, insurance, breakdown cover, servicing and maintenance, tyre and windscreen replacement are all included in the worry-free package, so all you need to budget for is fuel.

    Is there an age restriction?

    Close

The HRMC-DLA can be awarded to disabled children aged three and above. So, if you are a parent or guardian of a child who receives the allowance, you can order a car for use on their behalf. As long as you, or your child, receives either the HRMC-DLA or WPMS you are eligible to lease a car through Motability.
