Here’s what the new registration means and what to consider before choosing your next car.
The 76 plate is the registration age identifier for new cars first registered in Great Britain between 1 September 2026 and 28 February 2027.
It follows the 26 plate, which was introduced in March 2026. These two numbers help identify when a vehicle was first registered.
New registration identifiers arrive twice a year:

This follows the DVLA’s registration timetable.
The standard registration format uses two letters, two numbers and three final letters.
The first two letters identify the registration region, the numbers indicate the registration period, and the final three letters distinguish the vehicle.
