Hire a Car FAQs
The minimum age is 25 and you must have held your license for a minimum of 12 months if you are renting from VWFS Rent-a-Car. Restrictions apply if you are over 75 years of age.
In order to hire any ID model you must have held your license for 24 months.
The cost depends on vehicle type, hire length, and availability. Contact us or use our booking tool for accurate pricing.
You’ll need a valid driving licence and accepted payment method. Additional documents may be required depending on circumstances. For overseas hires we need to see - Passport, driving licence, flight itinerary & bill or bank statement with home address printed on.
The vehicle should be returned to the agreed hire location at the latest date and time shown on the Rental Agreement document. The hire period will end when you return the vehicle to this location and hand the vehicle keys to the Car Hire Manager or their representative. We will allow a 60 minute tolerance period at the end of the hire. If you return the vehicle later than the grace period, you will be charged an additional day’s hire. Please always contact your hire location if you need to extend the booking or if you know you are going to be late for any reason. We will always try our best to accommodate your requirements.
If you travel over the maximum permitted mileage we will charge you a pence per mile excess mileage charge (as shown on your hire agreement) for each mile you travel over the maximum mileage shown on your hire agreement.
Yes. Insurance is included in the car hire price displayed on our website, helping to keep the cost of your Pulman Car Hire booking clear and straightforward.
Yes. A refundable £250 deposit is required when hiring a vehicle from Pulman Car Hire. For vehicles hired from our Cramlington location, the refundable deposit is £1,000.
Yes. Additional drivers can be added to your booking for £15 per day, subject to the driver's age, driving licence and eligibility requirements.
If your plans change, refundable cancellations can be made up to 24 hours before your reservation. Cancellations made within 24 hours of the reservation may not be eligible for a refund.

Your hire vehicle must currently be returned to the same Pulman Car Hire location it was collected from. For example, a vehicle collected through our car hire in Durham service should be returned to the same Durham location.
Our vehicles are supplied on a level-for-level basis. This means petrol and diesel vehicles should be returned with the same amount of fuel they had when collected, while electric vehicles should be returned with approximately the same battery charge level.
We offer flexible weekly and monthly car hire for customers who need a vehicle for longer than a few days. Hire is available for up to 28 days on a rolling contract basis, providing a flexible alternative for longer-term transport needs.
