The Car2X communications with other vehicle of sudden braking manoeuvres by other traffic participants, enabling more time for the other drives to react. Drivers are also alerted if an emergency vehicle is approaching and from which direction even before it’s possible to hear the sirens. Giving the driver as much time as possible to safely react.
The Golf 8 also offer the following as optional equipment: Head-up display projection onto the windscreen; Matrix IQ Lights and a new premium speaker provider – Harman & Kardon.
View key information without taking your eyes off the road ahead, thanks to the new Head-up Display. Data such as vehicle speed, driver assistance system and navigation instructions are projected straight onto the windscreen.
Matrix IQ LED light technology features interactive light control that makes night-time driving safer. Information from the front camera, navigation’s digital map data, GPS information, steering wheel angle and driving speed activates specific LEDs for optional lighting.
Other safety and intelligent driving technology include:
Predictive Pedestrian Protection: which features a camera and radar sensor-controlled warning system. This alerts you if it detects a pedestrian at the edge of a road. This is standard on all models.
Adaptive Cruise Control: helps you maintain a predetermined set speed and distance from the vehicle in front of you. Standard on certain models.
Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC): provides a choice of different driving modes, Normal, Comfort or Sport. This is optional on all models.
Air Care Climatronic: This newly designed air conditioning system has a Smart Climate menu that can be used to activate specific individual functions such as ‘Warm feet’ or ‘Clear view’ = not only at the press of a button, but also using voice control.
Volkswagen have renamed two for the most popular trims for the Golf 8.
The new Life trim replaces the SE/Match and the Style trim replaces the GT/GT Edition. As well as these two new trims, the R-Line is also available. The GTE, GTD, GTI and R models are also available.

Trims are available with a choice of petrol and diesel engines including the new eTSI.
New eTSI engine: the new ‘mild hybrid eTSI’ engine is available in the new Golf 8. These are petrol engines that are coupled to a 48 V system plus 7-speed dual clutch gearbox (DSG). Efficient TSI engines mean perfect performance while significantly cutting fuel consumption. All eTSI models feature a powerful brake energy recuperation function. The 48 V system also makes it possible to coast while the combustion engine has been completely switched off to save even more fuel.
