AND AWAY THEY GO... South Shields FC sign-up new sponsor for their away shirts

South Shields FC have signed a new front of shirt sponsor for their away strip.

One name is familiar…the other is brand new.

The familiar name is Pulman…one of the region’s largest family owned car dealerships ….and the new name is CUPRA….the lifestyle and sporting arm of the SEAT car company.

Pulman, who have Volkswagen, Škoda, SEAT and CUPRA dealerships across the region as well as offering commercial vehicles, have been South Shields FC front of shirt sponsor for the home strip for the past two years and are part of the incredible success story which is building under the leadership of two Sunderland AFC legends, previously Kevin Phillips and now Julio Arca.

The home shirt, proudly worn by the South Shields FC men’s and women’s teams, is stylish and has proved extremely popular with the fans.

And now they have another choice as Pulman Group are confirmed as front of shirt sponsor for the away strip which will not only feature the Pulman Group name, but also, for the first time, the name and logo of CUPRA will be seen on a football shirt.

Another first is that South Shields FC now have two different logos for the away and home shirt sponsor.

Last season saw the club promoted into the Vanarama National League North and, even though it’s early days, they’re already looking good for back-to-back promotions as they currently sit joint top (2nd Oct’23).

“Without doubt, part of our success has to go down to the stability and support we have received from Pulman Group,” said Julio Arca who has the rare distinction of being a massive favourite amongst not only South Shields and Sunderland fans, but also Middlesbrough. “Throughout my career it has always been important to have financial backing, but it is wonderful when the support comes from a company which has strong local links. The fact that Pulman Group also brings the kudos of having the logos of two international companies on our shirts merely adds to the feel-good factor which all of our players appreciate."

This is now the 9th successive year where Pulman Group has sponsored South Shields FC.

“When we first entered into a sponsorship agreement with South Shields FC, we wanted to be part of the long-term strategy which was the aim of club chairman, Geoff Thompson. He wanted to build the club and take it forward with the ultimate aim of being a full time, successful team which would eventually climb the football pyramid. Nine years later, South Shields FC is a full time club; they’ve climbed the pyramid and, if things continue as they are, they could be playing in the National League by this time next year. The club also has a successful women’s team, and they’re even involved with the University of Sunderland, having created an International Academy in collaboration with them. Pulman chose to use the name of CUPRA on the away shirt to complement the Volkswagen name on the home shirt. The CUPRA brand is growing rapidly and their cars have striking designs so, with the stunning away shirts being orange, we loved the colour and thought it would represent the CUPRA brand perfectly.”

The sponsorship by Pulman Group for both the front and away shirts will run throughout the 2023 / 2024 season.
