Volkswagen is celebrating 50 years of GTI performance with a very special model, the Golf GTI EDITION 50. Set to launch for customer pre sale on Thursday 15 January 2026, this exclusive anniversary edition will be the most powerful production GTI ever built.
With striking design details, enhanced performance, and limited availability, the Golf GTI EDITION 50 is a landmark model for Volkswagen enthusiasts and performance car fans alike.
Produced exclusively during 2026, the Golf GTI EDITION 50 marks half a century of the iconic GTI nameplate. Power comes from a finely tuned petrol engine producing 239 kW, equivalent to 325 PS, alongside 420 Nm of torque. This represents a significant step up from the standard Golf GTI, which produces 265 PS.
The result is a hatchback that combines everyday usability with thrilling performance, staying true to the GTI DNA while pushing boundaries further than ever before.
The Golf GTI EDITION 50 features a range of unique exterior and interior elements that set it apart from the standard GTI line up.
Highlights include the return of the iconic Tornado Red paint finish, alongside a brand new exclusive colour called Dark Moss Green. The standard colour option is Pure White with a black roof, while a black roof is available across all colour choices, including Grenadilla Black Metallic.
The car rides on 19 inch Queenstown alloy wheels with a distinctive red glaze finish, created exclusively for the Edition 50. Black detailing across the roof paintwork, exterior mirror housings, and exhaust tailpipe trims adds to its purposeful and sporty stance.
Edition 50 branding can be found on the roof spoiler, inside the exterior mirrors, and on the door sill trims, reinforcing the model’s exclusivity.
Inside, design highlights include red seat belts, classic check pattern seats, and synthetic velour interior elements, all paying homage to the GTI heritage.
For drivers seeking even more engagement, Volkswagen is offering an optional GTI EDITION 50 Performance Pack. This includes the highly regarded Akrapovic exhaust system, delivering an even more dynamic driving experience and an enhanced exhaust note.
With its increased power output and refined performance tuning, the Golf GTI EDITION 50 sets a new benchmark for hot hatch performance.
The on the road price for the standard Golf GTI EDITION 50 is £47,995.
Customer pre sale opens on Thursday 15 January 2026. Production is expected to begin in March 2026, with the first cars arriving and the official market introduction taking place in May 2026.
